About This Quote

The quote above is from the book, "Atonement," by Ian McEwan. It's a very interesting piece of fiction about love and trust. The story is about a young girl, Cecilia, who has been sent to live with her mother after her father dies in World War II. Her mother, Briony, has been hiding a terrible secret from her daughter: she was the person who wrote a love letter for Cecilia's older sister that caused her to be sent away and almost get sent away herself. The story is told from Briony's point of view.

She is a young woman who has had no interest in love and trust until she meets Robbie Turner at a party and he tells her he loves her. When the war ends and Robbie returns to England, Briony finds herself pregnant and having to reveal her secret to him.
